MBEIC Chairs must be a business owner of a company certified by their local council.   The Chair must be able to devote the necessary resources to fulfill this role.

COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

  • Should mirror the national model with the following subcommittees:

MEETING FREQUENCY

  • Monthly (MBEIC)

  • Quarterly (entire MBE membership)

  • OTHER MEETINGS

  • MBEIC Chair should make every effort to attend all NMSDC quarterly meetings as well as the National Conference.

  • All MBEIC Chairs should attend all council board meetings.

Responsibilities of a Successful MBEIC CHAIR

  • Commitment to serves a complete term in office usually a minimum of 2 years

  • Develops a strong, supportive working relationship with Board Chair and President

  • Lead other MBE board members in serving as a vital link between the council, corporate members and the entire MBE body

  • Lead the recruitment efforts of eligible MBE’s in joining the council

  • Chair regular MBEIC meetings (which boosts interest, excitement and involvement)

  • Appoints Vice Chairs with specific responsibilities

  • Makes every effort to attends all quarterly and annual MBEIC meetings

  • Checks to ensure that all local supplier winners are nominated for National Supplier of the Year awards competition

  • Directs the efforts regarding the Corporate Awards component of the Local Council

  • Serve on those committee as assigned or named by Council Chair or President

  • Meets regularly with President to share praise, issues, etc. in constructive, professional manner

  • Keeps all records and Orientation Manual current and accessible.

Modifies local MBEIC manual to reflect and uphold consistency between national and local policies, procedures and personnel activities with:

  • Board of Directors

  • Council Staff and responsibilities

  • MBEIC Committee, subcommittees

  • Corporate members

  • Council calendar of events

  • MBEIC calendar

  • Should have an email address

SUCCESSION

  • MBEIC  Chair  should  begin  to  groom  a  successor  in last year of term. Successor (should be a Vice Chair) should begin attending quarterly meetings and assume responsibilities at local meetings prior to the end of incumbent's term of office.

  • MBEIC Orientation Manual should be passed to successor with a local orientation session by incumbent.  Incumbent must notify their area Vice Chair of impending change.

  • ORIENTATION An orientation session for MBEIC Chairs, et al will be conducted during annual MBEIC retreat in January.
